Dan Eisenstein was born on May 29, 1948 to Robert and Ann Eisenstein in Nashville. He grew up on Nichol Lane where his father still lives today. Dan graduated from Peabody Demonstration School in 1966, where he played basketball, ran track and was the President of the student body.
After Peabody, Dan attended the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1970 from the Wharton School of Finance with a degree in Economics. Dan also received a Master Degree in Special Education from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in 1972. In 1977 Dan graduated from Memphis State Law School.
Dan is married to Jill Eisenstein who is a librarian at the University School of Nashville. Dan and Jill have two adult children, Emily & Rachel.
Bob Eisenstein, Dan’s father, owns Loventhal Realty, Inc., and has resided in Nashville for over 60 years. Nan Speller, Dan’s sister is a real estate agent for Shirley Zeitlin and Associates and is an active member of the Nashville community.
Dan has worked in business, in the education and mental health fields, and as an attorney. Dan worked as the manager for Mill’s Bookstore, has been a licensed real estate agent and directed a program for the State Department of Mental Health prior to his entry into the practice of law.
Before being elected Judge in 2004, Dan was a principal in the Law Office of Eisenstein, Moses & Mossman. Dan had been an attorney in the general practice of law for over 27 years when he was elected.
Dan is a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation. He also serves as a Director of the Nashville Bar Association. He is member of the Harry Phillip American Inn of Court.
Dan is a founder, Director and past President of the Park Center, a non-profit agency that has provided services to Nashvillians with mental illness since 1984.
Dan’s participation in civic activities has included serving on the Board of Directors for Head School Day Care Center; Council of Community Services; Girl Scout Council of Cumberland Valley; Park Center; The Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee; The Temple; The Jewish Community Center; The Federation Endowment Fund; the Pro Bono Program of the Nashville Bar Association; the Legal Aid Society for Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands; and the Bar Foundation of the Nashville Bar Association. Dan participated in Leadership Nashville Program in 1980. He has been a member of the alumni Board of Trustees for the University School of Nashville and George Peabody College / Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the downtown Kiwanis Club as well as several chapters of the Chamber of Commerce.
