Judge’s Biography

Judge Marcus FloydJudge Floyd grew up in the Mississippi Delta and moved to Nashville the summer before his freshman year of high school. He is a graduate of Hillsboro High School. Judge Floyd attended Nashville State Technical College and earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. He earned his J.D. from Belmont University College of Law.

Judge Floyd grew up in the Mississippi Delta and moved to Nashville the summer before his freshman year of high school. He is a graduate of Hillsboro High School. Judge Floyd attended Nashville State Technical College and earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. He earned his J.D. from Belmont University College of Law.

Prior to being elected, Judge Floyd spent his entire career in public service. He has served as a Probation Officer, Judicial Law Clerk, Prosecutor, Mayoral Policy Advisor, and Public Defender. Before beginning law school, Judge Floyd served as a Probation Officer conducting pre-sentence investigations in Davidson and Shelby Counties. He began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Williamson County Trial Courts before joining the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney, where he managed thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases in both General Sessions and Criminal Court. Judge Floyd was also a founding member of the District Attorney’s Conviction Review Unit, established to investigate, review, and overturn wrongful convictions.

As Criminal Justice Policy Advisor to the Mayor, Judge Floyd guided the Community Oversight Board from a ballot initiative to a fully functioning government agency. Immediately prior to joining the judiciary, he served as an advocate for marginalized and indigent defendants in the Nashville Defenders Office.

Judge Floyd is a proud member of the Napier-Looby Bar Association, NAACP, Nashville Bar Association, Lawyers Association for Women–Marion Griffin Chapter. In 2023, he received the Justice A.A. Birch Outstanding Service Award presented by the Napier-Looby Bar Foundation. In 2025, Judge Floyd and the other members of the General Sessions Court Domestic Violence Team were honored as Outstanding Government Officials for their dedication to improving the justice system’s response to domestic violence.

Judge Floyd and his wife, Mandy, have been together since their days at Hillsboro High School. They have three children and a rambunctious black Labrador Retriever named Moonlight.
