Security Procedures Overview

 Security Screenings are mandatory for the safety of all court users

NOTE: Security Rules, Policies and Procedures are posted by DCSO at all Justice A. A. Birch building and the Ben West Building entry locations

What to Expect During Screening

    • Walkthrough metal detectors

    • Bag scanners or X-ray machines

    • Pat-down procedures if necessary

Prohibited Items List

Also posted by the DCSO: Clearly list items not allowed in the courthouse, such as:

  • Weapons of any kind (including firearms, knives, pepper spray)

  • Sharp objects (nail files, scissors, tools)

  • Illegal substances or paraphernalia

  • Food and drink  

 Permitted Items & Exceptions

  • Cell phones, laptops, and case related documentation via electronics (All devices must be on silent in the courtrooms) * All Judges have the final say on items allowed in each of their courtrooms.

  • Medical devices

  • legal exhibits or materials

Tips for Visitors

  • Arrive Early: arrive 30–60 minutes before scheduled court time.

  • Bring Only Essentials items for court and identification: To speed up screening and avoid delays.

  • Follow Staff Instructions: Security personnel have final authority on screening matters.
